Breastfeeding vs Formula
Well hello there and welcome to my little site! As a mother of 3 I decided to put together a site for moms just looking for some guidance on breastfeeding vs formula.
It was a tough decision each time I had a baby, and I just got so annoyed at most sites, forums or healthcare sources being so vehemently for or against one or the other, I decided I’d build the information site I wished existed when I was deciding on breastfeeding vs formula! Unbiased, non-judgey, ‘(‘pro-choice’ I guess).
Breastfeeding vs Formula – The Basics
So it goes without saying that breastfeeding is the most natural way to feed your baby – we’ve been doing it for centuries. It’s the best for your baby’s digestive system too. From an evolutionary perspective, breastmilk contains everything your baby needs at the times your baby needs it (in terms of macronutrient content).
Having said all that, just because breastfeeding is the most natural way to feed, does not mean that all other options are BAD and harmful for your baby. I’m a child of the 70s, formula-fed and still standing, hardly been sick in my whole life.
You see that’s what I feel we need to get away from – this dogma of one option being ‘the best’ and all other options, i.e. formula feeding being bad. Listen, your baby will be fine if you feed them formula. Your baby will probably be fine if you breastfeed too. And with that in mind, there’s one other question you’ll need to ask yourself in this breastfeeding vs formula conundrum…
What’s right for you, mom?
You need to be happy with your decision. It’s weird, with number 1 I chose to bottle feed (my precious boobs!), and regretted it after a couple of weeks, like I’d taken the easy way out and was depressed and felt like a bad mom. Number 2 I breastfed, everything worked well, I was one happy mommy and so was baby. Number 3, breastfed again, this time for only 2 weeks, life was so much more stressful, I found breastfeeding so hard this time, baby was so grouchy – I switched to formula and we were both happy again.
So I promise to present you only with articles that help you, not try to coerce you to do anything, just help you make the right decision for you, your baby and your family.
Here’s a good source of info on advantages and disadvantages of both choices too.
